Week 4 Question

Some Academic sources i believe are sources that have a very good credibility. I think so many instructors and professors insist that you have academic sources is because they want the research you are doing to be real. They dont want you to get information that is false or only half way true. Another reason professors want students to use academic sources is because they can check out the source for themselves to make sure that the student isn't plagerizing. You can use a non-academic source anytime, anywhere. You could use non-academic sources in some papers it just depends on what your professor wants. You can use non-academic sources in these weekly blogs that we have to write. I consider non-academic sources things that really cant be traced back but are not necessarily unreliable.

i totally agree that academic sources would be very credible and that professors want us to use them for that reason and mainly that reason. The opposite would go for non-academic sources, they don't want us using them because they are not credible but there are few instances in which we can use them.

I think that academic sources are also often more informative and easier to go back to than non academic sources. However, I do think that this is probably the type of class where non-academic sources are probably even more helpful than the academic sources.

I agree completely on this, non-academic sources, if can be tracked, would be hard but are not necessary unreliable although personally I would try and learn a little bit about the source that I am using if it is not an academic resource just to make sure that it is somewhat accurate. A day in the life of a college student written by a middle schooler would not be much help on a paper.

I agree teachers want to make sure that students are genuine about everything they produce especially in English classes. I think besides blogs other non-academic sources are most things off the internet. Actually one source in particular that my teachers in high school would not accept on papers is Wikapedia.

I think you are completely correct when you say that professors want students to use acedemic journals in their research because they want to catch people who plagiarize. I also agree with your statements about non traditional sources. I think that they are very helpful for papers where opinions matter most but not necessarily for factual papers. For this reason I think that sources, such as blogs, are great for our field working papers.
